The Hamilton-Oshawa Port Authority (HOPA Ports) is seeking an energetic and motivated team-player to join our maintenance crew in the role of Junior Maintenance/Equipment Operator.

What you'll do:
Reporting to the Manager, Maintenance & Fleet, you will ensure the safe condition and competent operation of a variety of equipment (backhoe, bobcat, forklift, snow removal, etc.) in compliance with safe work practices and procedures.
In addition, this position will be required to perform a range of routine, preventative, and other scheduled maintenance tasks on a variety of properties/piers.
Key responsibilities:
Although multi-disciplined in nature, the primary function for this position is to ensure the safe condition and competent operation of a variety of equipment such as:
- Backhoe
- Forklift
- Bobcat
- Snow removal equipment (plows, salters, etc)
- Lifting and elevating devices
- Street/side walk sweeper
This position will also be required to perform various tasks relevant to buildings, grounds, roads and utility maintenance which may include but are not limited to:
- Plumbing, painting, drywall, welding, carpentry, landscaping, digging, snow shoveling,
- Promptly respond to, assess, and complete emergency repair requests
- Alert Manager to damages and/or other unusual conditions/occurrences on HOPA properties
- Work collaboratively as part of a cross functional team
- Ensure ongoing compliance with all applicable laws and regulations, as well as company policies
- Promote and support a healthy and safe work environment
- Document all routine and emergency maintenance and repairs
Education/Experience required:
- Preference will be given to applicants who have completed degrees/courses from vocational schools in equipment operation and maintenance.
- 1-2 years general maintenance knowledge preferred
- Knowledge of the Canada Labour Code and Occupational Health & Safety Regulations or willingness to learn
Working conditions:
Outdoors; physically demanding, combination of sitting, standing, walking, bending, crouching & kneeling; working near/around water; must be able to lift weights up to 22.5 kg (50 lbs), willing to work evenings and weekends from time to time as required.
Salary range:
Starting salary of $58,000-62,000; commensurate with experience.
