HOPA Ports recently installed 20 new electric vehicle (EV) charging stations in Hamilton and Oshawa, marking a significant step towards reducing carbon emissions and achieving net zero by 2025. This initiative was made possible through support from Natural Resources Canada’s Zero Emission Vehicle Infrastructure Program (ZEVIP).
By supporting the installation of EV charging stations in Hamilton and Oshawa, this project has played a crucial role in raising awareness of lower carbon vehicles and fuels in Canada. The presence of these charging stations serves as a visible reminder of the viability and availability of electric vehicles (EVs) as a sustainable transportation option.
As more individuals encounter these charging points in their communities, they are prompted to consider the environmental benefits of EVs and the importance of reducing carbon emissions. Furthermore, by expanding the charging infrastructure, the project helps dispel concerns about range anxiety, thereby instilling confidence in potential EV owners and encouraging the transition towards cleaner transportation alternatives.
About NRCan’s Zero Emission Vehicle Infrastructure Program
NRCan’s ZEVIP is a crucial component of Canada’s strategy to accelerate the adoption of zero-emission vehicles (ZEVs) nationwide. This program addresses two key barriers to the adoption of zero-emission vehicles (ZEV): range anxiety and the lack of EV infrastructure. Making EV infrastructure available where Canadians live, travel, work and play, ensures that EV drivers can get to where they need to go with confidence.
By investing in the deployment of EV chargers, ZEVIP plays a crucial role in creating an ecosystem conducive to the growth of zero emission vehicles. These efforts align with Canada’s Electric Vehicle Availability Standard, which propose to further accelerate the production of zero-emission vehicles (ZEVs). This production aims to increase the supply of ZEVs made available to Canadians, ultimately contributing to the national target of all vehicles sales being ZEV by 2035.
